New kit turns Raspberry Pi boards into low-cost home media centres Raspberry Pi owners can now quickly and easily turn their Pi into a low-cost media centre for their home or office, with a new XBMC bundle from element14. One of a strong pipeline of Raspberry Pi solutions to be launched this year, the XBMC bundle is available through Farnell element14 in Europe. Containing all the additional hardware and software necessary to start using the device, the starter kit will allow users to stream content from devices on their home network through their Raspberry Pi, turning the screen or their TV into a media centre. The XBMC bundle includes an SD card pre-loaded with Raspbmc software, an open source Linux distribution created by Sam Nazarko that brings Xbox Media Center (XBMC) to the Raspberry Pi. element14 www.element14.com/raspberrypi AUO 22” 1/3 cut TFT for every application Besides the common 4:3 format TFTs, Data Modul now offers AUO’s full product line up for wide format 16:10 displays. A new “stretch-format” also makes it possible to provide panels into new applications where no suitable panel was available before. These new products are “cut panels” meaning a display with a panel size of 55.9 cm (22”) is cut, creating a completely new TFT, the G190SF01 V0 which is only a third of the original panel. This new TFT has a resolution of 1680 x 342 dots. A typical brightness of 300cd/m² is achieved through LED backlights and already integrated LED drivers. The panel measures 493.7x124.8x18.5mm and is suitable for all applications where available space in terms of height is limited. Analog to this product, a ¼ CUT of a former 48.26 cm (19“) is available too. Data Modul www.data-modul.com Arrow to pilot expansion of e-Stewards electronics recycling certification Arrow Electronics and the Basel Action Network (BAN) have announced a three-year agreement to certify all of Arrow’s electronics recycling and IT asset recovery operations worldwide to the e-Stewards standard. This will lead the program not only across North America but also into Europe and Latin America. Arrow will be the first global e-Stewards recycler taking the program to all of its facilities in multiple continents. The certification covers nine processing facilities in the United States, six in Europe and one in Brazil. Arrow has chosen to pursue e-Stewards certification as part of its global compliance program for value recovery that incorporates the best practices of today’s leading industry standards. Arrow Electronics www.arrowvaluerecovery.com Low-cost module with single-chip LEDs Component distributor Endrich Bauelemente Vertriebs GmbH has started to design and build its own line of LED modules. Its first product is a low-cost module with single-chip LEDs. The E-104-MC3/6xx-F5 is available in two versions, with 3 and 6W, respectively. The new modules are manufactured in collaboration with manufacturing design and services company Turck Duotec GmbH. They can replace the 3W and 6E variants of Citizen’s LED CL-L104 since they have the same form factor and size. The E-104-MC3/6xx- F5 is available five color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 5000K. As an example, the 3W 3000K version is supplied with a DC constant current of 350mW provides 104lm/w and 328lm. The 6W variant offers 650lm and an efficiency of 97lm/W; it requires a current of 700mA. The Endrich module is equipped with the Citizen CLL600, an LED for SMD installation, guaranteeing a long service life.
