The CMX420E and CMX810E are perfect for devices that require the highest amount of energy in the smallest volume, and where discharge current is low. CMX440P and CMX820P are designed for devices that draw very high levels of power. When energy density is important but high power discharge is also necessary, the CMX420M, CMX430M and CMX810M offer a balance between size and power capability. For customer convenience, two chargers are available to accompany the CMX series, an internal single channel charger and an external dual bay desktop charger, which can also be used for battery calibration. Smart features The smart portable power products are designed to meet the emerging needs of feature-laden devices in professional markets. Smart features of the CMX series include active and passive protection circuits that prevent over-temperature, over and under-voltage, overload and short circuit. Smart power management means the battery only requests charge when needed and shuts down when not being used. Accurate run time prediction is possible to within 1% through the use of an impedance tracking fuel gauge which also provides a bar graph indicator for battery capacity through the use of a liquid crystal display. Advancements in medicine and the changing nature of health care are driving the need for products to be truly innovative, at a time when OEMs are under pressure to cut costs and increase the value in each product they sell. The medical market is a challenging environment, and understandably so, but the arrival of the CMX Series supports the creation of pioneering equipment that medical practitioners can rely on. SMD DC-DC converters uprate efficiency, isolation and temperature range These isolated DC-DC converters occupy industry-standard SMD packages. In single and dual output versions they are available in power ranges from 0.25 to 3W. They claim higher efficiency, increased isolation and an extended operating temperature over competitive models. Both regulated and unregulated output models are available. The ISA, ISE, ISH and ISK series offer unregulated outputs while the ISR and ISW have regulated outputs. ISE and ISA ranges provide 1W output with single and dual unregulated outputs respectively, the ISH is a 2W version of the ISE range, and the ISK offers an unregulated 0.25W single output. ISW is a 1W single output converter with a regulated output, with the ISR range providing a regulated 3W single output. Accordingly there are various combinations of single output models from 3.3 to 24VDC, and dual output models with outputs of ±5, ±9, ±12, ±15 and ±24VDC. Each series offers up to five ±10% input voltage ranges or a 2:1 input range on the ISR series. Offering standard 1.5 or optional 3 kVDC input / output isolation figures, the converters measure 12.7 x 8.3 x 7.25 mm for the ISE, ISH and ISK ranges. The ISA and ISW measure 15.24 x 8.30 x 7.25 mm and the ISR measures 23.86 x 13.70 x 8.00 mm. All have industry standard pin outs. The converters feature an extended operating temperature range of -40 to +105C for the ISA, ISE, ISH, ISK and ISR ranges (+85C for ISW), and full output power up to +100C is achievable (+85 C for ISR and +70C for ISW). XP Power www.xppower.com Source-measure units target battery-driven product power optimisation Keysight Technologies has added two source/measure units (SMUs), that feature dynamic current measurement, to its N6700 Series modular power systems – the N6785A twoquadrant SMU for battery drain analysis and the N6786A two-quadrant SMU for functional test. Both SMUs provide power output up to 80W. These SMUs expand the N6780A Series SMU family by offering up to four times more power than the previous models. The new models offer sourcing, measurement and analysis to help engineers deliver the best possible battery life in their devices. The N6785A and N6786A SMUs allow engineers to test devices that require current up to 8A, such as tablets, large smartphones (known as phablets), police/military handheld radios and components of these devices. The N6780A Series SMUs eliminate the challenges of measuring dynamic currents with a feature called seamless measurement ranging. With seamless measurement ranging, engineers can precisely measure dynamic currents without any glitches or disruptions to the measurement. As the current drawn by the device under test (DUT) changes, the SMU automatically detects the change and switches to the current measurement range that will return the most precise measurement. When combined with the SMUs built-in 18-bit digitiser, seamless measurement ranging enables effective vertical resolution of (in the region of) 28-bits. This capability lets users visualise current drain from nano-Amps to Amps in one pass.
