MISCELLANEOUS Unidirectional ESD protection in a 01005 flip chip package Littelfuse’s series of unidirectional TVS diode arrays are aimed at logic and data lines, which typically do not transit zero volts during standard operation. Designed in space-saving 01005 flip chip packages measuring 0.230x0.430mm, the SP3145 series TVS diode arrays can withstand multiple electrostatic discharge (ESD) events without wear-out or degradation. Its low nominal capacitance (0.35pF) makes this series suitable for interfaces running at high data rates approaching 5GHz clock speeds. The general purpose SP1043 (8pF) and SP1044 (30pF) devices employ proprietary silicon avalanche technology to protect the I/O ports of electronic equipment subject to destructive ESD. These robust diodes can safely absorb repetitive ESD strikes at ±12kV (for SP1043) or ±30kV (for SP1044) without degradation. Littelfuse www.littelfuse.com Low-power GNSS receiver chip for wearable applications Swiss company u-blox has announced the UBX‑M8230‑CT global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver chip, offering a unique balance of performance and ultra-low power use. The Super-Efficient (Super-E) mode cuts the power consumption by two-thirds to a mere 20mW at one position update every second with hardly any loss in accuracy. It delivers continued superb speed and position accuracy even when tested in applications such as wearables and portable electronics, where the antenna is small and movement prevents a constant view of the sky. Super-E mode is ideal for devices that require high levels of speed and position accuracy, but where power is limited. Along with smartwatches, sports wearables and fitness trackers, it can be used in trackers for assets, people, children and animals, to provide accurate and frequent location information with minimal impact on battery life. “Constantly needing to know the user location in wearables has a strong strain on the battery, which has traditionally limited GNSS adoption. UBXM8230 CT’s low power consumption combined with its high positioning accuracy and the ultra small design footprint of <30 mm 2 makes it possible to add GNSS to virtually all wearables,” said Florian Bousquet, Market Development Manager, Product Center Positioning at u-blox. He added: “The UBXM8230 CT’s Super-E mode uses concurrent reception of GPS with either GLONASS or BeiDou. It allows batching location data temporarily on the chip, which helps to further reduce the system power consumption by avoiding the need to constantly run the main CPU. The size and power savings brought by UBX-M8230-CT will enable designers to add features desired by the market, such as heart rate monitoring, while still offering high position and speed accuracy. u-blox www.u-blox.com SoC module is built on the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC The Mercury+ XU1 from Enclustra is a SoC module built around Xilinx’ Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC. It accommodates 6 ARM cores, a Mali 400MP2 GPU, up to 8 GB of extremely fast DDR4 ECC SDRAM, numerous standard interfaces, 294 user I/Os and up to 747,000 LUT4 equivalents – all on an area smaller than a credit card. The Mercury+ XU1 also possesses a GPU and up to 294 user I/Os. Built-in interfaces include two Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, sixteen MGTs (with speeds of up to 12.5 Gbps), as well as PCIe Gen2 x4. With up to 8 GB of DDR4 SDRAM with bandwidths of 19.2 Gbps and ECC, as well as 8 GB eMMC flash memory, the 74×54mm board can handle even the heaviest of resourcehogging applications. The module is available in both commercial and industrial temperature ranges, and needs just a single 5-15 V supply for operation. Voltage rated to 1500VAC, the connectors are designed to replace traditional terminal lugs with safe, reliable, quick-disconnect keyed locking connectors, without requiring any tool. As installation is achieved with a single piece that requires no washers or nuts, there is virtually no risk of foreign object damage or debris (FOD) occurring. Distributed by TTI in Europe, the colour-coded and keyed for polarity, Snap-Lug Quick-Disconnect Power Connectors also help to prevent damage caused by accidental polarity reversal. The connectors are self-locking, confirmed with an audible and tactile click and minimizing the risk of partial mating. Snap-Lug Quick-Disconnect Power Connectors can withstand high vibrations and extreme temperatures, preventing unintended disconnects and maintaining continuous power even in the harsh environments found in transport applications. A shrouded design provides a touch-proof connection with no metal exposed to prevent accidental shock incidents when under power.
