DESIGN & PRODUCTS TElEmaTICS & lOGISTICS 77x69x32mm integrated vehicle tracking device accurate to 2.5m Astra Telematics has released a fully integrated vehicle tracking device, the AT210, designed as a one box solution with integrated antennas and an external GPS antenna option. The IP67 protected unit measures 77x69x32mm and draws only 25mA at 13.8 VDC (during typical operation), requiring only 50mA in sleep mode for the battery-fitted version. The AT210 features the latest SiRFStar IV GPS and Telit GE865 GSM/GPRS modems, an internal back-up battery offering 5 hrs of continuous operation or 4 days in hourly update mode. The module also integrates a 3-axis MEMS based accelerometer for driver behaviour reporting and motion detection, 2 opto- coupled digital inputs, a digital output MOSFET switch and an ADC input. The iButton (Dallas Key) input enables driver authentication. The tracking unit provides detailed driver behaviour data such as acceleration, decelera- tion, cornering , idling or overspeed. The AT210 supports auto-sensing of the engine status (stopped/running) from power feed (2 wire install) and simple and flexible user configuration by ASCII terminal, SMS or GPRS, with over the airfirmware update. Position accuracy is under 2.5m with a GPS receiver sensitivity of -163dBm (tracking). Astra Telematics www.gps-telematics.co.uk multimode HSPa+ and EV-DO module addresses multiple operator networks Sierra Wireless has introduced the AirPrime SL9090, a multimode module that gives device manufacturers the ability to operate on networks that use either HSPA+ or EV-DO cellular standards with a single product design. The AirPrime SL Series opens up new opportunities for developers to create innovative M2M applications. It will serve customers addressing the North American market, where both HSPA+ and EV-DO network technologies are used. The AirPrime SL9090 is designed for use in fixed or mobile M2M deployments in the industrial, field ser- vice, energy, networking, and transportation sectors. It has design and operational characteristics that make it particularly well-suited for use in tough environments, such as the ability to withstand an extended range of temperatures, and a dual microphone design that provides high-quality audio and noise cancellation features often needed in industrial settings. The 25x30mm AirPrime SL9090 comes with embedded software images specific to each selectable mobile operator. Sierra Wireless www.sierrawireless.com acal BFi introduces full-featured GSm/GPRS/GPS quad-band mobile platform Acal BFi announced a new, full-featured Novatel GSM/GPRS/GPS quad-band mobile platform, which combines enhanced vehicle telematics with easy operation and plug-and-play capability. As part of Novatel’s family of GSM/GPRS/GPS mobile platforms, the MT 4100 reduces upfront costs for permanent in-vehicle installation of modules for global fleet management and usage-based insurance programmes. In fleet management applications, the MT 4100 helps to improve safety, increase productivity and reduce costs; whilst for usage-based insur- ance programmes, such as Pay-As-You-Drive or Pay-How- You-Drive, the MT 4100 provides enhanced driver behaviour reporting, speed violation alerts, distance and duration of travel, as well as time of day reporting. The MT 4100 integrates an innovative internal cellular and GPS antenna, in addition to two serial interfaces for expanded peripheral support. Multiple GPIO and configurable driver behaviour reporting, polygon geo-fencing and driver ID capabili- ties enhance flexibility and functionality. The MT 4100 will be available in GSM/GPRS, CDMA, 1xRTT and HSDPA for superior GPS location, with the on-board Smart Agent event engine to support the Garmin FMI (Fleet Management Interface) v2.7.
