RN4020 Bluetooth® Low Energy PICtailTM / PICtail Plus (RN-4020-PICtail) Microchip’s RN4020 Bluetooth® Smart Module integrates all of the hardware and software, with worldwide and Bluetooth® Special Interest Group (SIG) certifi cation, for low-power wireless command-and-control connectivity using the low power consumption and simplicity of Bluetooth 4.1 Low-Energy. As a turnkey solution incorporating all of the SIG’s predefi ned services for Bluetooth Smart and Microchip’s Low-Energy Data Profi le (MLDP) for easy streaming of any type of data across a Bluetooth 4.1 Low-Energy (BTLE) link, the RN4020 signifi cantly reduces the eff ort to add BTLE to your design. The RN4020 can be connected to any microcontroller with a UART interface, including hundreds of PIC® MCUs, but also provides the fl exibility to be used as a standalone module with 3 Analog and 7 Digital input / output pins. Standalone operation is simplifi ed by Microchip’s unique no-compile scripting, which completely confi gured using simple ASCII commands with no need to compile code or the use of specialised tools to update the module. The module can be updated via the UART interface or over BTLE remotely. The RN4020 provides exactly what a Bluetooth® Smart device should with multi-year battery life and standards based data structures for interoperability, plus the added fl exibility of MLDP to allow Designers to move any type of data securely for home, medical and industrial applications.
